You can use a microphone and your speakers but it has trouble hearing you unless the microphone is very close to you or you turn down your speakers. There are many configuration options but I haven't touched any of them (haven't had the need). The only thing I have configured it the button I use on my joystick when I want to talk to Pilot2ATC. You need to download and install XPUIPC, you can search for it online or I can give you a link where you can download the latest version. When I need to talk with ATC I push the button on my joystick and speak. I have a button on my joystick programmed for that.
Instead I purchased Pilot2ATC so I can use my headset and mic to talk with ATC. For the issue you are asking about I have found no fix.
